Been to Kamari a couple of times, nice resort but the beach is a bit pony. Definitely go to Thira and Oia, but be careful if you go to Oia at night, apparently there's only about 30 taxis on the island so once the sun has gone there aren't any about and you can get stranded. The airport on the way home can be a fucking nightmare as its tiny, our first trip was fine but on the second we were coming back on BA and they had to delay the flight for 1.5 hours cos people couldn't physically get through security. At the moment you queue for check in, then queue to drop your cases off and then again for security, but it fell to bits. There were people fainting, pushing and shoving, almost fights, its just not geared up for having more than three flights leaving within the same hour. Fraport have bought the airport now so maybe in a couple of years it will show signs of kraut efficiency.

How much have we bid? How much are we short of the selling clubs valuation? Oh, hang on, it's a place...

Re: Santorini
you re pretty much covered by the comments here, but if I may add a slight suggestion, is to head for the beaches of Perivolos, half a kilometer to the southwest from Perissa...less crowded and with a bit more class.
Enjoy!

Re: Santorini
Went there in June. It can be expensive to go out (8 Euros a beer in one bar!) but you can find bargains too.

Try the Yellow Donkey beer, it's made on the island and is excellent. They do an IPA too.

Eat as much seafood as you can. It's amazing.

All the party bars are in Fira. Lot's of narrow winding streets and nightclubs, bars and shops.

We hired an ATV and rode around all the different beaches. The best beaches were Kamari and Perissa. Also went to one of the ancient ruined cities. It was ok, but the tickets were very expensive.

Last tip is take a boat tour to see the sunset. The best way to see Santorini is from the water. We payed a flat price and it was all the booze you could drink and a really good BBQ lunch too.

Re: Santorini
Travelled through there about 12 years ago, loved it - but I was a single 21 year old staying in backpackers surrounded by American girls loving the British accent. Also witnessed the most violent fight I've ever seen between two groups of lads from Greece and Italy (thought I'd seen a lot growing up around Thurrock and Basildon), my mate and I were the only ones left in the bar standing sipping on beers while everyone else scarpered (helped that my mate was 6ft 6 and a brick shite house). Lads were running into the bars and grabbing full on giant 2+ litre bottles of spirits to bottle people with. Must have been 20 on 20, never seen so much claret, went on for about 15 mins as well and even as it began to calm down there was still no old bill in sight! Was great to watch!

"spend MY LAST FEW DAYS on another island."

Darby_ knows something we don't.

Is the "most dangerous volcano in the Aegean", Kolumbo (underwater, 7km from Santorini) about to blow?

Re: Santorini
The view of the crater and the sunset at Oia are genuinely amazing. The rest of the island is pretty uninteresting.

If it was me, I'd get a room overlooking the crater for a few days and spend my last few days on another island.

Went there a few years. Who you are going with will play a big part in where you should stay! I went with my Mrs and our (then) 18 month old. We stayed in the North West part of the island, which is beautiful hotels built into sheer cliff face. Within an hour of arriving we realised the design of the hotels just weren't safe enough for our toddler (she could climb on a wall light and jump off the edge falling 200 foot onto rocks!) so we had to move to a place called (from memory) Karmari. Really liked it - family friendly and a lovely beach with a boat that shuttles you across to a different island 4 / 5 times a day. About 50 resturants within a 0.25 mile walk, so we just went on tripadvisor and went to the top 7. All the food was excellent, and reasonably priced. Would definitely go back again.

And the sunset on the NE side of the island is amazing
